A Ship Harbor Is Safe. But It’s Not What Ships Are Made for.

Letter to myself- Vol.1.

Self-promotion is actually a good thing. Yes, I know what you’re thinking – a good thing? 👀🙄👀🙄

Yes, it is. As long as it’s less boastful and more relatable.

And we just need to talk about self-promotion differently.

“Self-promotion isn’t about stating false or exaggerated information. It’s about being genuine and frank about your work and your efforts”

It shouldn’t feel yucky.

But we’ve been wired to see it as a negative thing.

And the dictionary is not helping either. Doing a quick Google search for synonyms you find ONLY negative ones. Look for yourself…

The list goes on here – Again. ALL negative.

But I think talking about what you do and how you help people should feel good. Let’s talk about how.

“I learned a long time ago the wisest
thing I can do is be on my own side,
be an advocate for myself and
others like me.” – Maya Angelou

First we need to talk about mindset.

Why you do what you do?

We can both agree you started your business to help your folks do a job better, faster, more efficiently. And how would they know you’re the right person for them? You get my point…

Advocating for ourselves shouldn’t feel gross. The secret is to connect with the right people and show them your value.

Minus the over the top obnoxious bragging. No one likes a showoff.

But there is a better way.

We can find a balance by sharing real stories, waving them naturally into the convo without pitch slapping everything that breathes.

Think about it. You get to share your value with people. Some of them might desperately need your help or know someone else who does.

Your intent is to inform, inspire, or share knowledge, rather than to solely draw attention to yourself.

I looked up some positive synonyms to help with your mindset.

Positive Synonyms for Self-Promotion

Self-advocacy

Self-endorsement

Brand enhancement

I know deep down you know your brand wasn’t meant to be in the shadows. You have a vision, a dream, a purpose way bigger than you.

Let your light shine.
